Quick Sanaa Dinner Review

So I apparently only took photos of my meal and not everyone elses, probably because I was SO hungry. But I can definitely say, I LOVE SANAA!!  Found on the Kidani side of Animal Kingdom Lodge, it's an adventure to get to but completely worth it.  Also, if you go during the daylight hours, you have a beautiful view of the savannah.

It's easily one of my favorite meals.  Granted I'm a sucker for Indian food and curry but I found that all the food at Sanaa was 'tame' enough for even the picky eater.  I actually wished that the curries were stronger but they were definitely full of flavor and I enjoyed.

I was obsessed with mango lassi's when I went to India a few years back so I had to order one.  This one was just ok, but it was definitely refreshing.  I think the paper straw had something to do with it. Sorry no photo.  Oops!

To start off, our table shared the Indian-Style Bread Service.  At the time, we were allowed to pick either 3 or 5 items and we went with the 5.  We also asked for all of the breads.  Nomnomnom.

Our favorites?  I can never get enough of traditional naan or pappadum.  The other naan's were good but it was hard to tell which was which.  For the accompaniments, I enjoyed all of them but really liked the mango chutney and the green sauce....which I can't remember which one it was.

Choice of Three Breads - Traditional Naan, Garlic-Ginger Naan, Spiced Naan, Onion Kucha, or Pappadum. Choice of Three Accompaniments - Red Chile Sambal, Cucumber Raita, Coriander Chutney, Mango Chutney, Coconut Chutney, Garlic Pickle, Spicy JalapeƱo-Lime Pickle, Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus, or Tamarind Chutney

For my entree, I went with the slow cooked items in gravy.  I know I definitely chose the butter chicken, which I loved.  It's very similar to chicken tikka masala and had a nice creamy, tomato taste to it.  My second dish I chose was the beef short ribs to change it up a little bit.

Both were very flavorful but not too spicy.  I actually wished they were slightly more spicy and a bit more authentic.  I know Disney has to appease the masses but a girl can dream, right?  The rice was cooked perfectly and went well with both dishes.

Choice of Two: Butter Chicken, Spicy Durban Chicken or Shrimp, Sustainable Fish with Goan Curry, or Beef Short Ribs served with Basmati Rice or Five-Grain Pilaf

For dessert?  I'm SUCH a sucker for rice pudding and when I saw it on the menu, I was intrigued.  The server was sure to point out that this wasn't traditional rice pudding though and I was ok with that.  She explained it that the guest has to put the dessert together.  Definitely intrigued!

When it came out, it was a bowl of warm rice, with a pistachio 'cracker' on top.  The server explained that I had to pour the spiced warmed milk/cream on top of the rice and I can crumble the cracker on top and enjoy.  And did I?  I LOVED it.  It was a nice twist on the norm and still tasted like delicious rice pudding.

** Unfortunately I've seen photos of the even newer rice pudding served and it looks slightly different.  Boo!

Overall?  I would come back to Sanaa in a heartbeat.  The only problem is actually getting out there to Animal Kingdom Lodge to enjoy it.  Sanaa and Jiko might seriously be reason enough just to stay at the hotel.  :)

Anyone else love Sanaa as much as I do?

    1. Bread service is good, but honestly? I think the main dishes are the real winners!

  5. I, too, found the mango lassi good but slightly... off, I guess? I'm used to a creamy consistency and I feel like this was more icy. But Sanaa is generally awesome!
