Race Recap! Disneyland Half Marathon / Dumbo Double Dare

It's finally time for my Dumbo Double Dare/Half Marathon recap!  This might be a record for me.  Usually it takes me months to finish with all my race recaps!

By now I'm sure everyone has read a ton of the half marathon recaps where you all heard about how HOT the race was.  Not gonna lie, it was pretty miserable.  At 3:30am it was already 80 degress and HUMID.  Not fun and definitely not a 'fast' race by any means.  But the race itself?  Definitely a good time.

We woke up at the lovely hour of 3:30am...I probably dragged my butt out of bed around 4 but I was definitely the last one up.

Quickly got ready and had to model my new shirt from Pixie Power!  Full review of the shirt and giveaway coming soon!

A bunch of us met at the sorcerers hat at the Disneyland Hotel and grabbed a big group shot.  You'll recognize most of them from the Cars outfits from the 10k!

We all headed over to the family reunion area (or starting area I guess) but quickly separated into our individual corrals.  Starting the run with me in my coral was Danielle, Keith, Daniel, and Patrick.  We all agreed to start the race together and some of us would drop back or speed up when needed.  I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up with some of them due to the heat and humidity but gave it my best shot for a few miles!

Before we knew it, the national anthem played and Corral A was off!  Let's get this party started!

The first mile or so was off Disney property and slightly uneventful but it definitely got much better when I saw this guy along the course....

Joey Fatone and I

Joey was with a few people (one of them being a coach/running partner) and was using the Galloway method of run/walking 3min:1min.  I was lucky enough to catch him during a walk break so it was easy to snap a pic.  I can't even imagine how many people stopped and asked for photos.  I know most of my friends did!  We leapfrogged Joey and his gang a BUNCH of times during the race.

Immediately after I walked away from Joey, I ran into Karen!  Not gonna lie, I think my reaction to seeing Karen was even bigger than seeing Joey.  Even Joey's friend in the orange shirt has that 'These girls are crazy' look!  How awesome is Karen's mouseketeer outfit?  Too cute.

When we got on property again, I immediately saw this couple... OMG Dopey is SO CLOSE!! AHH!!!

Once in DCA, the five of us ran around taking pictures of almost everything!

Keith and I already gross and sweaty

Right before I dropped down for my pushups!

I know Danielle posted this photo too but seriously.... we're obviously having the time of our lives!

Had to say hi to our Cars buddies from the day before...

Making our way into Disneyland, we quickly made our way down Main Street...

There's supposed to be a castle behind us...oops!

Right before leaving Disneyland, half of our gang stopped to take photos with Snow White while the other half made a quick beeline for the last real restrooms along the course (I was one of them).  Here's where we lost a bunch of people.  Danielle and Daniel took off and picked up the speed a little bit, Keith dropped down a bit, and Patrick ended up slowing down so I could catch up.  We ended up running the rest of the race together (thank you, Pat!!!)!

Always a beautiful sunrise
It was REALLY getting hot and humid, which (like I've said a million times) kicks my butt.  I just chugged along at a fairly slow pace and made the miles tick by.  Poor Pat was probably walking compared to his normal speed!

The AMAZING guys at Mouse Planet had hands down the best tent and cheering area I've ever seen.  First...there were the entertaining signs....

yay!

omg YES PLEASE

Tons of signs along the route!
They had some of their volunteers sitting by a tent handing out pretzels, twizzlers, COLD orange slices, water, etc.  It was amazing.  And the ice cold sponges!!  I gladly took some orange slices and a sponge, saving the sponge in my sports bra for future use along the course.

runDisney did a great job of keeping us entertained along the course that wasn't in Disney property.  I always love the Hawaiian dancers and the endless rows of classic cars.  It was amazing seeing all of the work these owners put into resorting their cars.

lots of cars!

McQueen!
When we hit the dirt path I knew we were close to Angels Stadium....which also meant we were almost done with the race!  By then I was ridiculously hot and just wanted the race to be over with.  Angels Stadium was cool with all of the crowds and boy scouts cheering but we kept on chugging along and soon enough we were on our way to our last 5k!

Another awesome sign...and so true!

There really wasn't anything entertaining to talk about the last 3 miles.  I just wanted to be done!  Although I do want to say thank you to the awesome lady towards the end of the race that was handing out frozen grapes.  Seriously, how often do we take food from strangers...other than in a race?!  The grapes were SO refreshing and just what I needed.

After finishing, we quickly grabbed our medals and our food boxes and walked through bag check to find everyone.  I also tried to wrap ice around my knees (to prevent them from being sore later) but it failed miserably b/c they didn't have volunteers doing the wrapping.  A volunteer handed me ice and then said the saran wrap stuff was out in the group of runners somewhere.  At my angle, and in my exhaustion, I attempted it but the bags fell off before I even found everyone!  Oh well!

After grabbing a few celebratory photos we all started meandering back to the hotel to shower.

So I always enjoy the Disneyland Half, and this year the only thing that made me not LOVE it was the heat.  It was way too hot for me and I just wanted the race to be over with before it even started.  Since most of it is outside of Disney property, it's usually a good race to try to PR but this year I didn't even come close due to the heat!  My PR was 25 mins faster!! Yikes!  But will we be back next year?  Considering we said we're only doing Disneyland once every 5 years or so....yet we've already done it 3 years in a row?  We'll see how it goes :)

Sorry I sped up after we left the parks, I really wanted to pick up the pace and use the last 10 miles as a good tempo run for MCM!

P.S. - you need to stop stalking Joey Fatone! : )
